Where In Sheffield?

I now know that the event will be held in Sheffield but the next question is where? There is sure to be many venues that offer the space to hold this but I need to consider things like cooking stands and Health & Safety. I need to research this further before deciding the exact place.

I started my research by looking for venues in Sheffield  and found a site (www.welcometosheffield.co.uk) which gave information for all kinds of venues suitable for all types of events.

The first one that caught my attention was the magna centre which had more than enough space but it just didn't feel right. The building was out of the city centre which limits peoples interest and the whole place would really be to large of a venue for the event I have in mind. The overall look of the place just doesn't fit with the theme and atmosphere that would be best suited.

I then started to look within the city and came across the Sheffield City hall. Although it's mainly used for stage shows, there are conference rooms available for hire, but yet again the look and feel of the whole building looks far to grand and no doubt expensive for my event. Not to mention the health and safety aspects, I have to bear in mind that the event would be full of cooking stands which means things such as gas bottles and naked flames which would be out of the question for a place like this.

After searching through the website I came to a bit of a dead end. All the places where either to grand or impractical for my event. Thin king along the lines of health and safety, I thought that it would be better to turn my attention to an out door place.

After some digging I came across the Sheffield botanical Gardens and found out how they have yearly events held on the pavilions around the gardens. There is no direct way of applying for a vent request but there are plenty of contacts that would be perfect candidates to invite to the presentation.

I feel like I have found the ideal setting for this event, it's set within the parameters of the City, it's within reaching distance of local Asian communities as well. There would be fewer Health and Safety risks because it's outdoor setting plus can you imagine a better backdrop than the botanical gardens. I could picture it as a massive Asian BBQ in the height of summer with stalls lined up along the pavilion. There is one big down side and that is the weather but that's a risk any outdoor event takes.

I was already thinking about a graphic way finder map, so this  image above would come in real handy.
I could imagine these stalls (from the Arts in the Garden event) being swapped for traditional Asian Cooking stands.
Can you really think of a better place to hold an event better than a place like this .

When I was searching for images for the gardens, I came across a piece of work from Leanne Kitchen who was commissioned to illustrate this beautiful map for the botanical gardens. I like it for it's simplicity as well as it's good balance which you see a lot in Asian art. It only givers the urge to go for the way finder map idea within my presentation because I feel it would give people something to look after the presentation had finished. The difference between mine would be the overall style which would be informed by the overall visual identity which I am developing now.

You can find this and many other illustrations at

So thats that, the place my event will be held at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens.
