Colour

Holi

Holi is a festival of colour that celebrates victory of good over evil and to bring hopes to a good harvest of food. People come together and throw coloured powder and water over each other which must be an amazing experience. I love the vibrant rich colours that can be seen, it's these colours that would be nice to use within my main visual identity, not for just their visual aesthetics but, for there symbolic purpose as well. Although my event isn't about a victory over evil but it is about a celebration of food and links in well with the hopes for a good harvest.

India and the Significance of the Colour Green

I found a piece of interesting information from a website www.zeenews.india.com about the significance of certain colours. The one that caught my attention was green because India believe it symbolises a new beginning in harvest and happiness. I like the link to the key word "harvest" and it's significance towards my event.

Choosing Colours Carefully

From what I'm learning about colours is quite complicating. The difference between the each individual cultures meanings toward certain colours is a mine field as I don't want to offend. Green is a colour thats set in stone for India because of its meaning of a good harvest but what other colours do I allocate for other cultures.

I have found a website www.webdesignerdepot.com to help me choose colours carefully for each countries strand on my visual identity.

Green
I will use for India.

Red

I'm going to allocate the colour red to to China because of it's meaning towards luck and happiness which is what I would want at the event. You will also see the colour red used a in western restaurants for this very reason.

Blue

I have chosen the colour Blue because it's considered one of the most positive and safest colour to use for global audiences. I will use it for a south eastern strain as it is a associated with Friday in the eyes of Thailand, plus is there ever a better feeling than a friday!

Orange
Orange would work well for japan because it translates in to courage and love.

Yellow

Yellow could work for both Japan and India. In Japan it's considered a colour that is sacred and imperial. In India, it's the colour of commerce which means business, I think?

Purple

Purple needs a place in my visual identity but I mustn't use it for Thailand as it is a colour for mourning. For most parts of Asia, it's a colour of wealth and nobility. A lighter shade of purple is considered sacred to Buddha in Tibet.

I never knew what a mine field colour can be when working within another culture. The last thing I wanted to do was offend any one so I believe this was a great piece of research where I have gained a safe well though out colour pallet for my visual identity.
